Afternoons is a 21 × 13 inch original mixed-media artwork created on natural wood, where place, texture, and memory are inseparably intertwined. The scene captures two fishing boats resting along the coast of Morocco—an unguarded moment of daily life suspended in quiet rhythm and light.
Built through layered inks, hand-applied overlays, and my signature smudging technique, the work allows the grain of the wood to remain visible beneath the surface. This natural bleed-through adds warmth, depth, and an organic pulse, grounding the composition in authenticity rather than perfection.
Collected shells from the very shore depicted in the piece are embedded directly into the artwork, creating a physical connection to Morocco itself. Each shell becomes a fragment of place and time—offering the collector not just an image, but a tangible piece of the land and sea from which the work was born.
Finished with a high-gloss resin seal, the surface enhances color, protects the embedded elements, and preserves the work for years to come. This piece is both visual and tactile—meant to be felt as much as it is seen.
